The Brief
To help those working in the film and TV sector who experience the norms of overwork, burnout, and a culture of not paying fairly for hours spent on the job.
The Client
Share My Telly Job exists to find practical solutions to hiring and retaining film and TV industry talent. Set up and run by practitioners in the industry, they particularly champion part-time workers, freelancers and carers working in the sector.
Our Solution
We took their seed of an idea for a time tracking tool for sector workers, and ran it through…
- A Design Sprint
- Prototyping and user testing
- Multiple design & build sprints
- Post-launch user testing
- Complex time and contract data handling(!)
… to produce the first releases of The Time Project web app. Using the web app on their phone, workers can anonymously record their hours worked and compare them against their contracted hours. They can also benchmark their take-home pay against others in similar job role and departments.
Going On
The Time Project is now live and gathering data. Partnering with York University, the team will be using its data to help broadcasters and production companies understand disparities in their worker’s hours and wages – based on location, seniority, gender and other demographics – and to advocate for fair and equitable pay.
